Mortimer’s Morris
Formed in 1994 and took its name from Mortimer’s Hole at Nottingham Castle. We dance traditional dances and self-choreographed dances in the same style.
The sound of the band is far from traditional North West due to its unusual instrumentation and the inclusion of continental tunes in the repertoire.
North West Morris originated in the mill towns of Lancashire and Cheshire. Dancers decorated discarded bobbins for sticks and wore clogs or boots. The dances were processional in nature and often evolved to accompany a local event, such as ‘rushbearing’.
